Svetlana Talabolina's mural "Freeda" in Lynwood, CA, unveiled during Spanish History Month, pays tribute to Frida Kahlo and stands as one of 2024's most significant Public Art Projects of Los Angeles County. The mural highlights Svetlana’s talent and her role as a key cultural figure.

Her public murals have become integral to the city’s artistic identity, transforming urban spaces into vibrant reflections of culture and community. With "Freeda," Svetlana bridges Kahlo’s legacy with the city’s diversity, cementing her place as a important voice in contemporary art.



Svetlana’s work in the community and as a vital cultural force cannot be understated as she has come to show her work alongside some of the biggest names in the Los Angeles art scene, including Risk, Estevan Oriol, Billy Morrison, WRDSMTH, Plastic Jesus, and many others. Her achievements are a source of pride for the city. In 2021, Svetlana was honored as our award-winning artist, a testament to her remarkable talent and dedication to her craft. Furthermore, we had the privilege of featuring her on our cover in 2023, highlighting her continued impact and influence in the art world. Her work remains a vital part of the artistic and cultural fabric of Los Angeles, and we are fortunate to witness her journey and contributions firsthand.

When we asked Svetlana to share the meaning behind the name 'FREEDA', she replied, "I see freedom as something not defined by borders or limitations, but by the boundless spirit within. Frida Kahlo’s life and art inspire me to see that even in the face of constraints, true freedom is the courage to be unapologetically oneself."

What makes Freeda even more remarkable is Svetlana’s tireless dedication to the project. Working day and night, she poured her heart and soul into every stroke, creating the breathtaking mural entirely on her own. Her passion and perseverance are evident in the detail and depth of the piece, and her ability to bring Kahlo’s spirit to life in a more modern context is a testament to her commitment as an artist. Svetlana's solitary effort highlights her immense work ethic and unwavering belief in the power of art to connect and heal.
